Company Sponsorship Tips

Tips for getting your organisation to subsidise the cost of employees participating in the Corporate Romp

Often corporates do not want to set a precedent of supporting one event over others, however if one of the criteria for supporting an event is that the event must be something that EVERYONE can participate in (ie it doesn’t exclude anyone), then this is often a way around this because some corporate teams events have an athletic element and therefore only achievable for less than 10% of employees.  The Romp is the ONLY corporate team event (to our knowledge) that is accessible and therefore achievable for everyone, including people in wheelchairs and with other disabilities.

Research shows that companies who encourage and support their employees to participate in corporate team events can reap significant benefits for a very small outlay.  Companies who value a "work-life balance" are able to increase employee satisfaction and retention.

Some of the benefits that a company can expect to receive from employee participation in the Romp include:

  • To pay a private company to set up a team-build ‘Amazing Race’-style event for your corporate would cost many thousands of dollars.
  • The Romp requires teams to work together in a structured fashion that is also incredibly fun and educational.
  • The participant's increased sense of satisfaction and loyalty with the company after having been supported in the event, and the corresponding valuable investment in the companies' biggest asset (ie its people)
  • Increased health & fitness via the Romp’s ‘healthy/active’ theme and requirement to walk (or wheel in the case of wheelchairs) around the city for 4 hours on Romp day.  Healthier, more active employees are proven to be more productive.
  • The cultural and social exchange that will take place between team members, not just on event day but in the months/weeks leading up to the event
  • Expanding/formalising the corporate’s involvement in health & well-being programs
  • Publicity and promotion of the companies' brand via the Romper Home Pages and/or via theme-dressing on Romp day

One other obvious benefit is that corporate participation in the Romp will indirectly assist with improving world health.  The Romp is a 100% for charity event with all proceeds going to fight the world’s most serious infectious diseases and cancers.

One other tip when seeking corporate subsidy of entry fees, is to invite all employees of the company to participate ie don't only promote the opportunity to certain units or groups. Everyone should have the opportunity to participate if they wish. If you take this approach, it may be wise for the company to subsidise only 80% of the cost of entry fee and require that the employee pay for the remaining 20%. This will dissuade people from nominating who are merely in it for the ‘free ride’.
